Wonder foods that help cleanse your body naturally
Lemons
Lemons are the go-to fruit for those who are looking to detox. Full of vitamin C, this antioxidant-rich fruit is good for countering free-radicals which can have a negative impact on the body. Also, lemons have an alkaline effect, helping restore the body’s pH balance, thus enhancing the immune system. A slice of lemon in hot water is an easy way to start your detox.
Ginger
Ginger is great especially if one is overdoing it on junk food or alcoholic beverage. Aside from settling your stomach, ginger can help in digestion, and reduce bloating and gas. It also contains a large number of antioxidants and provides a fine boost to immunity. Try some ginger tea or using grated ginger in fruit juice or vegetable juice.
Beetroot
Beetroot hugely supports liver detoxification, making it a great detox food. It also provides a great shot of nutrients in one go as it is full of magnesium, iron, and vitamin C. Often referred to as a superfood, it is also great for skin, hair, high cholesterol levels, and even athletic performance levels. To enjoy the benefits of beetroot, add some to a salad or drink some beetroot juice.
Garlic
Garlic, despite its strong off-putting odour, is great for a detox. Rich in antiviral, antibacterial and antibiotic properties, garlic also has allicin which aids white blood cell production that can help protect the body against infections. For maximum benefits, consume raw garlic or try adding crushed garlic to dressing for a salad.
Green tea
Though not strictly a food, green tea contains active ingredients that help support detox and provide additional health benefits. Green tea is filled with antioxidants and can help rid the body of toxins. It has been seen to boost the performance of the liver and can protect the liver from diseases. To get the most from green tea drinking, brew it from loose leaves as this will allow more antioxidants to be released.

Cabbage
Cabbage is a wonderful detox food. Like many cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli and cauliflower, cabbage contains sulforaphane, a chemical that aids the body in the fight against toxins. Cabbage also contains glutathione, an antioxidant which helps promote the liver function. An alternative way of including cabbage in your diet, if you are not a fan of having it on your plate, is to consume it in liquid form – either as cabbage water or a fermented cabbage juice.
