LIBERTYVILLE — The professionals at North Shore Pro-Active Health are offering a free Back-to-School Detox class from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, at the offices at 112 Lake St., Libertyville.
Those attending will learn pathways to improved clarity, better sleep, fewer aches and pains and possibly weight loss, coordinators said.
“Now that the kids are back in school, it’s time for parents to focus on themselves a little bit,” said Dr. Jade Dellinger, a chiropractor who runs North Shore Pro-Active Health with her sister, Dr. Jordan Leasure, also a chiropractor.
“We have an educational evening where we discuss what a detox is and why it is a healthy thing to undertake two to four times a year,” Dellinger said. “The talk is free. Those who’d like to reserve a detox kit in advance can reserve and pay for one on our Facebook page.”
The kits are $199 and include a protein powder, one month supply of probiotics, a homeopathic liver cleanse and other products that kick start and support the detoxifying process.
Those attending the class are encouraged to participate in a one-week group detox that will begin the following Monday.
“Your body has a detox system that gets rid of waste. When toxins build up, that system gets bogged down and doesn’t function properly,” Dellinger said. “The talk teaches you things to do and how to do them so that you can continue the process every day to create a less toxic environment for yourself.”
Things like alcohol, smoke, stress, chemicals in prepared foods and in the plastics in which many people store food are among the environmental toxins that can hamper the body’s systems.
“Class participants learn everything from better skin products to use to food storage options and certainly what you should avoid putting into your body,” Dellinger said, adding that the program does not consist of a harsh cleanse.
“This is not a colon cleanse,” she said. “It is meant to improve the function of your liver. Some participants may experience some headaches and fatigue depending on the level of toxicity in their bodies. But that typically lasts only a couple of days.
“By the end, you should experience greater mental clarity, less bloat, possibly better sleep — and some will notice weight loss,” Dellinger said. “These improvements will continue if people continue to make less toxic choices.”
